WAVE was founded in the fall of 2001 for the 2002 season and competed in the Percussion Scholastic A catagorie, since the Michigan A catagorie had not yet been implemented.  The show was titled "Maelstrom" and was writtend by Richard Burrows and Jamie Edwards.

In 2003 the name was changed to B.A.M.P.A.C. (Bluewater Area Marching Percussion and Auxiliary Corps) and moved to Percussion Independent A to allow members from other schools to participate.  The unit experienced financial difficulty and only participated in two shows.  An ice storm the evening before championships prevented the group from travelling.  The show was titled "A Day in the Life of Billy the Kid" and was written by Robert Gras.

2004 saw the WAVE name restored and the group moved to the Percussion Michigan A class, created for lines that were still developing and facing staff and budget issues.  Although small and featuring many first time marchers and performers the group created a strong visual presence and progressed well throughout the season.  The show was titled "A Tribute to Rush" and was written by Robert Gras and Josh Puranen.

Membership exploded following a very succesful marching season and 2005 saw WAVE with its largest membership ever.  The visual aspect of show design was expanded thru costuming, staging and gestures.  The lessons learned about teaching and designing shows gathered from the previous 3 seasons were put to good use to create the 2005 show "East of Egypt", based on the music of Dream Theater.  The group had a stellar season, winning two 1st place and one 2nd place awards during the season and capturing the State Championship at finals.

For 2006 the group followed up their first state championship by running the table and winning their second - winning first palce in their class in every MCGC contest they entered.  A minimalist approach to scenery and costuming was taken to emphasize the music - once again, the group presented seclections from the band Dream Theater including "The Test That Stumped Them All" and "Panic Attack".

In 2007 season the group moved back into the Independent A class to allow graduated students and marchers from other schools.  The group includes members from Saginaw Valley State University, Western Michigan University, Saint Clair County Community College, Algonac HS, and Anchor Bay HS.   The group established a new identity by doing a purely classical show, a production of Stravinky's "Firebird Suite".  2007 also marked the second time WAVE had participated in a WGI regional.  The group took another step in growth and development by travelling to Dayton, Ohio in April and competing with the best drumlines in the world for the first time at the WGI World Championships, winning 11th place in their division.

In 2008 the group returned to the darker, more aggressive style of music they have became known for.  The show was an original composition by Robert Gras and Josh Puranen entitled "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil".  The group performed at 4 MCGC shows, MCGC State Championships, the Dayton, Ohio WGI Regional and WGI World Championships. The scores climbed steadily all season.  By the time WGI pre-lims rolled around, WAVE was quite literally on the verge of their first ever WGI World Finals appearance.  As the last few lines performed in Independent A, the members and staff gathered around a monitor to watch as the final five scores were posted.  WAVE sat in eigth place,  the cutoff for finals.  The first three of the last five scores posted were all below WAVE, but the last two posted higher, WAVE moved down to tenth place and missed finals by eight tenths of one point.

2009 found the group fielding their largest line since becoming and Independent unit.  The show is written around electronica and features a strong "techno" vibe.  Bright colors and highly integrated visual, along with another great battery book by Will Gordillo, will highlight WAVE's march to WGI Finals with their show "WAVEforms".  Unfortunately, problems with membership prevented the group from returning to Dayton for their third run at a WGI World Championship finals spot.

For 2010, the unit returns to it's roots, performing exclusively in the state of Michigan and starting the season as a Michigan AA line in the MCGC circuit. The group will perform Brian Mudget and Alan Keown's piece "Tidal Wave".
